Date Safety Guidelines

Effective Date: August 8, 2026

Dating as a Student helps arrange introductions, but no matchmaking or verification process can guarantee another person's behavior.

Meeting someone new always involves some uncertainty. These guidelines are designed to reduce risk and help participants make informed decisions.

Before the Date

Keep the first meeting public

During the pilot, Dating as a Student will arrange dates at public campus locations.

Examples may include:

  • campus coffee shops;
  • libraries;
  • student centers;
  • dining areas;
  • campus walks;
  • public recreational areas;
  • campus events; or
  • other populated locations.

You are never required to leave the planned location.

Tell someone where you are going

Consider telling a trusted friend, roommate, or family member:

  • where you are meeting;
  • approximately when the date starts; and
  • when you expect to return.

Control your transportation

Whenever reasonably possible, arrange transportation that allows you to leave independently.

Do not rely entirely on someone you just met for transportation.

Protect private information

There is no expectation to give your match:

  • your telephone number;
  • home address;
  • exact residence;
  • social-media account;
  • class schedule; or
  • workplace.

Dating as a Student can manage follow-up after the date.

During the Date

Trust your judgment

You may end the date at any time.

You do not need a "good enough" reason.

If you feel uncomfortable, you may leave.

Physical contact requires consent

Agreeing to a date is not consent to:

  • kissing;
  • touching;
  • sexual activity;
  • going somewhere private; or
  • continuing the date.

Consent should be voluntary and may be withdrawn.

You may decline alcohol or substances

No participant should pressure another person to drink alcohol or use any substance.

Protect drinks and belongings

Keep control of your own food, drinks, phone, wallet, keys, and other belongings.

Do not feel obligated to stay

If the date was intended to last one hour, neither person is obligated to remain for the entire hour.

If You Want to Leave

You may simply say that you are leaving.

You do not need to debate or justify the decision.

Where functionality is available, Dating as a Student may provide a way to notify us that you ended a date early.

If you believe you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or campus emergency resources.

After the Date

Dating as a Student will ask privately what you would like to do next.

You may select options such as:

  • I would like another date.
  • I would like to exchange contact information.
  • I would prefer another match.
  • I would like to pause matching.
  • I would like to report a concern.

If you do not want another date, you do not need to personally reject the other participant.

We will handle the follow-up.

Contact Information

Contact information should be exchanged only when you are comfortable doing so.

If Dating as a Student offers mutual contact exchange, information will be released only after both people independently request it.

Reporting Safety Concerns

Please report conduct involving:

  • threats;
  • stalking;
  • unwanted sexual contact;
  • repeated unwanted communication;
  • violence;
  • fraud;
  • impersonation;
  • coercion;
  • discrimination;
  • intoxication-related safety issues; or
  • other concerning conduct.

You may make a report even if you are unsure whether the behavior violated a specific rule.

Verification Is Not a Safety Guarantee

A verified student may still behave improperly.

Student verification confirms limited eligibility information; it does not guarantee someone's character, intentions, criminal history, honesty, or future behavior.

Dating as a Student does not represent that every participant has undergone a criminal background check unless we specifically state otherwise.
